The only route approaching from the north, offering a quieter, drier, and wilderness-rich experience with excellent acclimatization.

Starting near the Kenya border, the Rongai Route is the only northern approach to Kilimanjaro. It begins in dry farmland and pine forest, passing through moorland with potential wildlife sightings, before reaching the summit. The descent is via the Marangu Route, adding scenic variety.

Total distance: approximately 73 km (45 miles) round trip, with a gradual profile and all nights spent camping in high-quality tents.
